Vacuum holding:

Vacuum is used to hold parts in place while they are being worked on. Timber can be held down on a router while shapes are cut into it. CDs are frequently held in place while laquer is applied or labels are applied or the case may be held down while the cd is placed in it. The medical industry used vacuum chucking to hold delicate parts while they are machined to size.

The vacuum although strong applies on even load over the service being held with out marking it.

The types of vacuum pumps used to generate the vacuum can again vary. We usually recommend oil recirculating rotary vane pumps to the wood work industry due to the high flow and high vacuum level achievable. It does depend on the product being held down. As a rule if the product is very porous one would need a high flow vacuum pump such as a side channel unit or a high flow venturi. If the product is non porous (plastic, glass) a high vacuum holding force can be achieved with a rotary vane vacuum pump or a venturi.
